Overview
Firstbase is able to provide a service to continually monitor your Apple Business (formerly Apple Business Manager/ABM) enrollment status on your behalf. Through an automated initial audit and daily checks, Firstbase cross-references your active Apple device inventory against Apple Business, identifies enrollment gaps, and proactively notifies your team when action is needed. You do not log into a separate dashboard to use this service. Firstbase Operations runs the audits internally and surfaces results — along with any remediation guidance — through your Operations Success Manager (OSM) or Customer Success Manager (CSM).
Please see the full setup guide for more details
What Does This Service Cover?
- Automated daily enrollment checks: Firstbase monitors new Apple devices added to your Firstbase inventory each day and verifies their Apple Business enrollment status.
- Initial full audit: When you first connect, Firstbase runs a one-time audit across every active Apple device in your organization.
- Proactive issue resolution: Enrollment gaps on Firstbase-supplied devices are flagged to our Operations team to fix. Customer-supplied devices with gaps are surfaced to your IT team with clear remediation guidance.
- Stale enrollment cleanup: Retired devices that still appear in Apple Business are flagged so your team can remove them and keep enrollment data clean.
Benefits
- Fewer deployment surprises: Enrollment issues are caught before a device ships, not after it is in an employee's hands.
- Clear ownership: Every finding is categorized as Firstbase-supplied or customer-supplied, so the right team takes action.
- Zero-touch readiness: Devices that are not enrolled in Apple Business cannot be zero-touch deployed to end users via MDM using ADE (Automated Device Enrollment, formerly DEP). Devce Verification keeps your fleet ready.
- No overhead for your team: Your IT or operations team does not need to manually cross-check inventory against Apple Business. Firstbase handles it.
How It Works
Setup requires a one-time configuration: your Apple Business Administrator creates a read-only API role and account in Apple Business and submits the credentials to Firstbase. After that, everything runs automatically.
- One-time setup: Your Apple Business Administrator creates a least-privilege API role and account in Apple Business, then submits the credentials to Firstbase via the Firstbase platform (API & Integrations > Apple Business API). For full step-by-step instructions, see the ABM Verification Setup Guide.
- Initial full audit: Firstbase runs a comprehensive audit of all active Apple devices in your Firstbase inventory, cross-referencing each serial against Apple Business. Results are reviewed by your OSM/CSM and shared as a consolidated report.
- Daily checks (ongoing): Each day, the service verifies ADE (Automated Device Enrollment) status for new Apple devices added to your inventory. Your OSM/CSM reaches out directly whenever an issue requires action from your team. Firstbase also de-duplicates findings so you are not repeatedly notified about the same device.
- On-demand rechecks: Firstbase Operations can trigger an additional audit at any time, for example to confirm that a remediation has completed before the next scheduled run.
Understanding the Audit Categories
Every Apple device in your Firstbase inventory is assigned one of the following statuses on each audit run:
Enrolled in Apple Business
The device is active in your Firstbase inventory and properly enrolled in Apple Business via ADE (Automated Device Enrollment). No action needed.
Not Enrolled — Firstbase-supplied
The device was shipped from Firstbase but is missing from Apple Business. Firstbase Operations will take action to enroll it. No action needed from your team.
Not Enrolled — Customer-supplied
The device was brought in by your organization and is missing from Apple Business. Your IT team will need to add it using your reseller relationship, Apple Configurator, or direct ADE enrollment.
Retired Still in Apple Business
The device has been retired in Firstbase but still appears in Apple Business. Your IT team should remove it to keep enrollment data clean.
Potential Data Quality Issue
The serial number stored in Firstbase has a formatting issue (for example, an incorrect prefix character) that prevented automatic matching with Apple Business. Firstbase will flag these for cleanup as part of the audit results.
Availability, Limitations & Important Notes
- Apple Business only: This service currently supports Apple Business (formerly Apple Business Manager/ABM). Apple School Manager (ASM) is not yet supported.
- API credentials required: An Apple Business API account with the required role must be created by the customer before the audit can run.
- Supported devices: Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV devices managed through Firstbase.
- No customer dashboard: ABM Verification is an internal Firstbase Operations tool. Results and remediation guidance are delivered through your OSM/CSM, not a customer-facing portal.
- Read-only access: Firstbase can only read enrollment status from Apple Business. The service cannot add, remove, or modify any devices in your Apple Business organization.
- Single ABM/DEP number only: ABM Verification currently supports organizations with a single ABM/DEP number (ADE — Automated Device Enrollment). If your organization uses multiple ABM/DEP numbers, please contact your CSM to discuss your setup and provide feedback on how we can support this in a future release.
- All services are subject to the Firstbase Global Equipment & Logistics Service Capabilities
