Overview
Leased equipment, or HaaS (Hardware as a Service), offers flexibility and convenience for managing hardware lifecycles. At the end of your initial lease term (HaaS Subscription term), there are several options to consider. This guide will walk you through the process to ensure a seamless transition, whether you choose to extend, return, or buy out the leased equipment.
End-of-Term Actions for HaaS Equipment
What Happens If I Take No Action?
If no action is taken, the lease term (HaaS subscription) automatically renews regardless of item location (i.e., warehouse, office, deployed to user):
- Annual Payment Model: The term extends for an additional 12 months.
- Monthly Payment Model: The term extends month-to-month.
To avoid automatic renewal, you need to submit a Support ticket prior to the lease termination notification date in your contract, detailing your desire to not renew the term and your selection of the following options:
1. Return the Device
To return the leased equipment, please follow the standard return process after submitting a ticket to support. Please note leased equipment return conditions apply:
-
Condition Requirements: Devices must be returned in one of the following conditions:
- New or Like New: No visible wear, fully functional.
- Good: Minor wear, fully functional.
- Fair or Poor Condition: Not accepted for returns.
- Unusable Condition: Not accepted for returns.
- Lock Requirements: Devices Must be unlocked and unenrolled from zero-touch deployment software or Mobile Device Management (MDM), Apple Activation Lock or any other lock type that would disable a resale of the item.
Please note - If the user is unresponsive or the device is not returned within 30 days or does not meet these conditions, a buyout fee will be applied per our Firstbase Equipment & Service Policies, your order form, and any other supplemental documentation relative to your agreement.
2. Buy Out the Device
If you wish to own the equipment, you may be able to purchase it via the buyout process. Submit a support ticket to initiate the buyout, and our team will provide the required steps if this option is available to you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my recurring HaaS billing stop automatically?
No, recurring billing does not stop automatically, even after the initial billing term or upon returning the device to the warehouse.
- Submit a Zendesk ticket to notify Firstbase of your decision to not renew and specify if you are returning or buying out the device.
Do I own the equipment at the end of the initial billing period?
No, per terms detailed in Leased Equipment Basics, ownership remains with Firstbase unless you choose to buy out the device. Initiate the buyout process detailed above by submitting a support ticket.
How do I check the end-of-term date for my leased (HaaS) devices?
Refer to the Billing End Date column under Asset Management in your Firstbase platform.
- Billing will continue beyond the end date until you submit a ticket indicating your intent to not renew.
How do I extend the HaaS term of my item?
No action is required to extend the HaaS term—it will automatically renew:
- Annual Model: Renews for 12 months.

Auto-renewal will continue until you notify Firstbase via a ticket of your decision to return or buy out the device.
