A Retrieval Kit Arrived Back to the Warehouse from User, Now What?
Updated
Once a retrieval kit arrives at the warehouse, the following steps are taken for all packages:
A Firstbase warehouse associate adds the package to the processing queue, where it shall remain until it can be processed.
When ready, the package is pulled for processing. At this time, the box is unpacked, and each item is thoroughly sanitized and inspected for damage.
For reversible imperfections (such as sticker application) that Firstbase finds, cleaning/ reconditioning is completed.
Laptops and Computers:
After inspection and sanitizing, Firstbase will then wipe the media/ storage of the device and reinstall its OS to the manufacturer's most recent version or factory setting type out-of-box specifications.
Note: Wiping & Reinstallation methods vary by manufacturer and are based solely on manufacturer-provided capabilities and instructions.
The device(s) are assigned a grade according to Firstbase's Equipment Grading Scale. Please see the help article: Understanding the Grading of Equipment.
The device(s) are re-sanitized and repackaged for redeployment.
Damaged or Non-Functioning Devices:
Firstbase will assess the repairability and work with manufacturers for repair or replacement as needed, following the ITAD process and maintaining inventory minimums.
For items considered to be in poor working/ poor functioning condition or unusable due to catastrophic damage, Firstbase will assess repairability and then work with manufacturers to have the device repaired, in or outside of warranty, if considered eligible.
For eligible repair items, no guarantee of repair and processing times are outside of standard returns processing, at a minimum of 45 days or more, depending on individual requirements of a given item, availability of replacement parts, and physical/ geographical location.
For items deemed ineligible for repair/ warranty service, we will follow the standard ITAD process and replace them with new inventory to maintain established inventory minimums.
